Are you getting mad and tired of changing
diapers? It is such a good move when you get able to get your baby out of
diapers. But then, when it comes to potty training, the correct timing really
means everything! You know what I mean. If you start the potty training for your
baby too early, it will only take longer. On the other hand, if you miss the
right time and opportunity, your child may be resistant against the process when
you try to start it later on. Boy, itīs all not that easy! If only you knew the
right time, when to begin?
Before you even start thinking further, do forget
everything your mom told you about your own pooty training at the time when you
had been 18 months old. Most probably she had only trained HERSELF to sit you
onto the toilet at more or less regular intervals. But this is NOT the same as
receiving a full potty training. It is even better not to think about starting
with potty training before your little child is two years old. Stop, I can hear
you saying: nonsense, thatīs much too late. But wait. For most children the
right time to effectively start with potty training is in between the age of two
and three years. But not later, because with three years of age your little one
should be ready for kindergarten, which means it must be fully able to go to
toilet itself.
Your child will show own interest when it will be ready
for potty training. Your little he or she will start to wish to observe your
toilet habits and will begin asking questions about it. Explain to him, that big
people go to the potty instead of using a diaper, which is to be used by little
babies only. And even if this may make you feel uncomfortable, allow your child
to come into the bathroom and watch.
If you have a son, make sure Daddy is taking him into the
bathroom with him, too. Besides, there are some good children story books on the
market about potty training that you can start reading with your child. These
will help to encourage and grow interest in going to the potty or even toilet.
There are even books that are especially targeted to boys and others that are
geared specifically to girls, which I think is very helpful. Just make a quick
search on amazon.com to find a good selection of appropriate children books
relating to potty training.
The ability of your child to pull his pants up and down by
itself is another sign that it is ready for potty training. If your child can
manage this step of dressing and undressing, potty training will become much
more easy and relaxed.
Also the frequency in which your child urinates is an
indication on when to start with potty training. If he or she is still wetting
the diaper every hour or half, your little one is not ready for potty training
yet. But if your child starts to hold it back for one or two hours in between
wet diapers, then it is ready to hold itīs urine. And this is a critical time
to really start with potty training, independant of your childīs age.
If you believe your child is ready for potty training, I
recommend you read my article in "Mommy to Mommy - the Truth about taking
Care of Baby". Within this article I describe some potty training
strategies created to make potty training as painless and stressless as
possilbe. For both, children and parents. You can pick up this little book at http://www.educatedmother.com
